My
Music Background
Greetings, I'm Nathan
Shane. Electronic musician, guitarist, and musical tech-head. I am self-taught musically, and
was blessed with a "natural ear and ability" for playing both the guitar and piano since early childhood. I
also played first violin from 5th - 12th grade, but set aside that instrument to pursue my love of the guitar, synthesizers, and live performance.
I've always been very serious about music and public
performance and have always taken a professional attitude and
approach to my musical career. |

I formed my first successful cover/copy band, REASON, in 1980, as a three-piece (guitar, bass, drums) outfit.
Then when our bass player left the band in 1983, the drummer/lead vocalist (Richard Sultana) and I embarked into new musical territory...man, music, midi, and machines. My drummer set aside his acoustic kit, and built a custom electronic drum kit which used rack-mount samplers for drum and percussion sounds. I fell heavily into using synthesizers and sound modules, and began to split my performance time on-stage between the guitar and keyboards. |

We continued to perform as a high-tech duo, using click-tracks, midi sequencers, and rack-mount sound modules to produce a full and tight sound. We both became (and still are) very proficient at synchronizing our live playing alongside that of midi sequenced bass and keyboard parts. The direction of our copy music also changed to 80's & 90's alternative dance, pop, rock.
REASON became a well known high-tech band performing in and around the Dallas/Ft.Worth area for many years, with several hundred performances to date. Playing such places as: The Filling Station (Addison/Dallas), Hard Rock Cafe, Tolberts, The West End (outdoors), Froggy Bottoms, The Outback Pub (Dallas/Houston), Bahama Bobs, The Voodoo Bar, The Coyote Bar, and The Ritz, to name a few.
During the past several years, REASON has played less and less, but we continue to perform on occasion as an acoustic "unplugged" duo. We still use midi accompaniment, but have sequenced all the drum parts. Richard sings, and plays percussion, while I strum on my Takamine acoustic guitar.

I
still continue to play guitar each evening and work on original
music as well. Music has always been a passionate part of my life
since I was a small child and has continued to be so even as I grow
older. I cannot imagine a world without music or technology. They
both play their own unique roles in helping musicians achieve their
musical goals and pursuits. - NS |

My
Connection To Line 6 |
|
|
My
relationship with Line 6 began to develop within a few months of having started
my Vettaville website. My technical awareness and information about
their products apparently caught their attention and they eventually
contacted me with praise and support for my efforts. Over the past years, I have continued to develop my relationship with Line 6,
and have been actively involved with product development ideas as
well as being an Alpha-Tester for their QA Lab and creating product
videos for their Marketing Department. |

| As part of my
dedication to music and technology education, I attended the Houston Area Line 6 Users
Group in 2004 to give a demonstration of the newly released
system software for the Line 6 Vetta Amplifier. (this was back when I
still had my ponytail, but not anymore these days, the tail is
gone for good) |

office building located in Agoura Hills, California. Pictured here with me are Marcus

Graphic Artist), James Santiago (Line 6 Product
Specialist Extraordinare), and Andy Z (studio
owner/creator of the Institute Of Noise Forums). |

| Radio
Musical Highlight
In July of 1999, I had the whim to create/record an alternative pop/rock song for a local radio station here in Dallas, Texas, 94.5 The EDGE. The creative twist was, that I used sound bites of their morning hosts, Jagger, Michelle, Ryan, and Fuzzy taken from their broadcasts, and set these in perfect sync to the beat of the music. Everyone at The EDGE was so impressed that they interviewed me on-air, played my song each morning for four days, and continued to talk about me as well. When you add all of it up, I actually surpassed the "Warhol" 15 minutes of fame. |

Watercolor Paintings |
|
|
One of my
other creative abilities to is draw and paint. These photos show a series of female drawings/paintings I
did many years ago during one of my creative painting phases. They were created using a combination of watercolors, map color pencils, and ink pens.
I was unable to scan the entire paintings, so the bottom of the
paintings are not showing. The actual size of each piece is just a little smaller than life-size. |
